TN gets excess rainfall - Officials put on alert now

Even before the beginning of the main monsoon season in TN, substantial rains have increased the storage levels in many dams. Important piece of information is that the authorities have put the officials belonging to the PWD and Revenue department on alert for the purpose of monitoring the water flow. It must be noted that the state of TN recorded 56% excess rainfall since the month of June.

Revenue and Disaster Management minister Mr. R.B. Udhaykumar mentioned about the pre monsoon work that has been taken up by the state government. He then added that interdepartmental as well as de-silting works have been intensified in TN. At the TN state disaster management headquarters on Monday, the minister was involved in reviewing the preparatory work.

Instructions have been given to the district collectors regarding taking precautionary measures in the low lying areas plus periodically monitoring rainfall in the catchment areas. 

A senior officer belonging to the Revenue department shed light on how inflow into the major reservoirs in southern and western TN are being monitored and how flood warnings have been issued across Cauvery river basin.

For the purpose of monitoring the inflow at Hogenakkal, Mettur, Bhavani Sagar and Pykara dams, officials belonging to the Revenue department and from PWD have been put on alert.

In north Chennai, Revenue and Disaster Management minister Mr. Udhaykumar was involved in reviewing the Coronavirus mitigation efforts. Frontline workers were given corona kits and immunity medicines. 

The incidence of Covid-19 infection has come down in north Chennai and 87% of patients in Chennai have recovered from the infection. This was brought out by the minister. He explained about how Thiru Vi- ka- Nagar zone that had many Covid-19 cases is now limping back to recovery. He finally pointed out that the positivity rate in north Chennai would decrease further in this month.
