South Chennai to have wettest July in 200 years

All through the last week, Chennai had warm weather. The officials belonging to the Regional Meteorological Department or RMD Chennai have said that there would be light to moderate rains in Chennai and in the state of TN this week.

Interactions between easterly and westerly troughs in TN would be leading to the rainfall. This was according to the director of RMD Chennai Mr. S. Balachandran. As the week goes on, all the areas in TN could have moderate rains. This week, Chennai city will have light to moderate rains with thunderstorms.

Point is the July monsoons have progressed at a typical rate and as a result the rains would be light to moderate in most parts belonging to Tamil Nadu. At the weather stations preset at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam in Chennai, no significant rainfall was recorded.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in Nungambakkam were 35.9 degrees Celsius and 25.4 degrees Celsius respectively. Likewise, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in Meenambakkam were 35.2 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.

The north as well as central parts of the Chennai city did not get good monsoons this time when compared to the southern parts of the Chennai city. This was according to the famous weather blogger Mr Pradeep John.

He revealed that south Chennai had a historic July month up to now and Meenambakkam recorded 270 mm rains just 30 short of 300mm. He concluded that if in the next 5 days 300mm rain is crossed in south Chennai then it would be the wettest July in 200 years.
