Cyclone to form on 29th April- May cross the coast via Chennai-Nagappattinam

The Chennai Meteorological Centre officer informed that a cyclone is set to be formed on 25th April over the southwest Bay of Bengal. This cyclone may move towards Tamil Nadu on 29th April. This will cause prospects of heavy rains.

This year, it has been an intense scorching summer in Tamil Nadu with the people facing extreme hardships. Yet, due to the phenomenon of thermal convection, it has been raining in a few places in Tamil Nadu.

In this situation, the officer, as mentioned above, informed that a cyclone is to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal leading to prospects of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu.

The officer informed:

‘There are strong prospects of a low-depression zone to be formed over the Indian Ocean and the adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal and this may move towards Tamil Nadu. It may intensify and form into a deep depression zone. In the subsequent 2 days , it may drift towards coastal Tamil Nadu .Itmay transform into a cyclone. This may lead to the prospects heavy rains with thunder in the coastal districts.

Due to the phenomenon of thermal convection, a mild to medium rain has been recorded. Salem district Aathur has recorded 10 cm of rain. Theni district Periyakulam -6cm. Thiruvanaamalai-5 cm, Krishnagiri Districts Hosur – 5cm

There are prospects  of mild to medium rain in the next 24 hoursin the interior Tamil Nadu, especially, the districts of Erode, Salem, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Viridhunagar, Kanyakumari, Thiruvarur, and Thanjavur.
