20 states under the emergency number 112

There is a plan to link the entire country under a single emergency telephone number 112.

20 states and some union territories have been linked in this network so far.

At present, there are emergency call numbers in use are 100 (police), Fire-fighting (101), and Women Safety (1090), There are other numbers in use for various purposes as well.

Instead of the above, a plan to link the entire country with a single emergency call number of 112 with the Central Government’s Nirbhaya Funds.

It may be noted that in the United States of America, a single emergency call number 911 is in use. A similar scheme is being executed in India.

An official from the Central Home Ministry shared that 20 states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Kerala, Telangana, Puducherry, Andaman and the Nicobar Islands are linked for this single emergency number 112.

Funds of Rs. 321.69 have been allotted for this purpose and so far, Rs. 278.66 Crores have been expended.
