Posted on: 07/Nov/2018 12:21:14 PM
As the low-pressure format which developed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified severely, a warning for very heavy rains has been issued to the southern districts of Tamil Nadu from today (Wednesday, 7th November) to 9th November.

The northeast monsoon seasonal rain has intensified in the southern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and the adjacent Kerala sections. The depression zone, formed over the Bay of Bengal above the north of Sri Lanka and Mannar Gulf, prevailed for 2 days. This transformed into a heavy depression zone during midnight day-before-yesterday.

Due to the above severe depression zone which is further intensifying, a warning has been issued for very heavy rains from today (7th November) until 9th November.

It has been informed by IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) that in the 1st Phase, the rain will spread across the areas from Nagapattinam to Kanyakumari and then the rain will extend to the southern districts lying somewhat interior to the coast.

The Bay of Bengal will be stormy and turbulent in the areas from Nagapattinam to Kanyakumari with high waves. Winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph. The Chennai Meteorological Centre has hence warned the fishermen no to venture into the sea until 9th November.

The Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. There are prospects of mild rain sometimes. A maximum temperature of 32 Degrees Celsius is expected to be recorded.
