Heavy rains to lash Tamil Nadu; rainy spell to remain for the next 3 days

Posted on: 05/Nov/2018 4:35:56 PM
Under the influence of several weather systems moving from east to west, the state of Tamil Nadu especially the southern parts have been receiving good rains since the last few days.

In fact, rains have been increasing since the last 3 days. On November 2 Tamil Nadu received almost 20% excess of rains, followed by 62% excess on November 3 and 214% excess on November 4.

However, as predicted by Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, rainfall activity reduced significantly over Tamil Nadu as only light rains with one or two moderate spells were recorded.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Coonoor recorded 30 mm of rain, followed by Ooty 11.2 mm, Cuddalore 6.5 mm and Thanjavur 4.3 mm.

Now a cyclonic circulation is over South Bay of Bengal. This system is moving in west/northwest direction and lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka Coast.

In wake of this system, we expect a low-pressure area to form in the next 24 hours, which is likely to move in west/northwest direction across parts of Sri Lanka and South Tamil Nadu.

Thus, we can say that fairly widespread moderate rains with isolated heavy showers are expected over most parts of the state especially the southern and central parts. However, the norther parts will mainly receive light rainfall activity. These rains are expected to continue for the next three days and reduce thereafter.
