The pre Monsoon season has been good so far for South India. Specifically, Kerala has been recording non stop pre-Monsoon activities since day one of the season. Gradually, pre Monsoon activities in Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu also picked up the pace. In the past day, many stations of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu recorded light to moderate pre-Monsoon showers with one or two spells.

As predicted by Skymet Weather, rains picked up pace during the last 24 hours, wherein the region recorded moderate to heavy rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded heavy rain to the tune of 67 mm, followed by Kozhikode at 52 mm, Mangalore 26 mm, Madurai 21 mm, Karipur 21 mm, Dharmapuri 14 mm and Coimbatore 11 mm of rains.

These activities have been occurring due to the semi-permanent feature of wind discontinuity. Another feature is the trough which is persisting in proximity of all the three states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

As per Skymet Weather, the pre Monsoon activity is expected to continue for the next few days over Kerala, South Karnataka, and Interior Tamil Nadu. These activities will continue as both the system  would continue to persist. Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kochi are likely to record rain and thundershower activity. However, Chennai rains would miss out.
