Posted on: 28/Jun/2022 9:18:38 AM
In September, a new bus terminus would be opened at Kilambakkam near Vandalur in Chennai.

Now, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation is having plans to operate 150 MTC buses to Kilambakkam from various places across Chennai.  It must be remembered that traffic congestion at CMBT in Koyambedu in Chennai has been unimaginable and this has led to several problems.

To avoid this traffic congestion or to decongest, a new bus terminus is being constructed at Kilambakkam near Vandalur. This work is being carried out by CMDA. This new bus terminus at Kilambakkam would be spread over an area of 67 acres of land and at a cost of Rs314 crores.

It must be noted that all the south bound buses would be operated from the bus terminus at Kilambakkam.

There is a need to provide connectivity for the passengers from various places in Chennai as the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam is around 30kms from the CMBT. This was highlighted by an official belonging to MTC. The sources from MTC have confirmed that MTC would be operating many buses to Kilambakkam and there would also be an extension of MTC buses at Tambaram west and Tambaram east bus terminus.

Point is that the Kilambakkam bus terminus is located nearly 9 km from Tambaram railway station and 8km from Tambaram east bus terminus. The frequent MTC buses users have mentioned that MTC should provide better connectivity to Kilambakkam for the sake of hassle free to and fro travel.

It is superb to note that from various places in Chennai there are buses to CMBT in Koyambedu to help the passengers. In the same way, MTC must provide bus connectivity at Kilambakkam also. This was according to a frequent bus commuter at Perambur.

It was later pointed out by Mr. S. Muthuswamy minister for housing and urban development that all the works would get completed soon.
