Managing Vertigo!! - Foods to eat and avoid if you have vertigo problems!!

In our lives, many of us would have had vertigo issues at some point of time!!

The sensation of whirling and loss of balance that is normally associated with looking down from great heights is vertigo. It can also be due to disease that affects the inner ear or vestibular nerve.

A person with vertigo issues would normally show these symptoms like dizziness, spinning feeling, hearing loss in one ear, balance issues, ringing in the ears, sweating, nausea and vomiting etc. Two types of vertigo are central vertigo and peripheral vertigo. It is true that medicines play a huge role in managing vertigo issues. There are also possibilities of managing vertigo by making few changes in the lifestyle, food etc.

Various foods that a person with vertigo must eat are

Eat Berries:

The berries are full of antioxidants and micronutrients and they have anti-inflammatory properties that could help with vertigo symptoms. Various types of berries that could be consumed are blueberries, blackberries etc.

Eat tomatoes:

It is known that dehydration could lead to dizziness, nausea and headache etc. Hence, a person with vertigo issues must keep him or her hydrated. For combating vertigo, tomatoes must be consumed by the person. Truth is that tomatoes are rich in antioxidants plus vitamin C, anti-inflammatory properties etc.

Eat ginger:

The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger play a huge role in providing relief from symptoms like nausea, headache etc. These are the 2 common symptoms of vertigo issue. Ginger would prevent these symptoms from becoming worse. Our overall health would be benefited by consuming ginger.

Various foods that must be avoided by persons with vertigo are

Avoid caffeine:

Vertigo symptoms might aggravate when a person with vertigo drinks coffee having caffeine in them. There would be times when we drink coffee and then become more tired. It must be noted that coffee would make the body slip into a temporary state of alertness that would go away as soon as the effect of caffeine on the body wears off. Those with vertigo must not drink coffee.

Avoid alcohol:

It is not at all good to consume alcohol if you have the condition that could make you feel dizzy. It is believed that intake of alcohol could lead to dehydration, loss of motor skills etc. These could lead to worsening of the symptoms of vertigo.

Avoid excess salt and sugar:

It is never good and healthy to consume un-moderated salt and sugars. It is very essential to regulate the intake of salt and sugars to be healthy. Those with diabetes issues and BP issues must be more careful.  Excess intake of salt and sugars would have an effect on the vertigo problem. Various foods like processed foods, fried foods, sodas etc must be avoided by those with vertigo issues.
