An understanding has been reached between Institution of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Tamil Nadu State Government Department of Education to set up 12 centres facilitating the government school students to study the Chartered Accountancy course.

For the 1st ever a time in India, 12 coaching help centres are being set up to facilitate the government school students to study Chartered Accountancy course. In order to create awareness in this regard, an understanding has been signed by the Institution of Chartered Accountants of India and the State Government Department of Education.

ICIA has been helping the government school students also to study the Chartered Accountancy Course. An Educational Guidance Council has been set up by the South India Chartered Accountants Federation in this regard. The Chief of this Guidance Council and the Secretary of the South India Chartered Accountants Association, K. Jalapathi shared in this regard:

The students who have completed +2 can write the Basic Examination (Foundation) and the candidates who have completed Commerce Graduation Course with 55% marks can write the Intermediate Examination directly.

Even if a candidate passes 1 section of the Intermediate Examination consisting of 2 sections, he/she can prepare to write for the final CA Examinations while enrolling and working with the practicing auditor. After the 3-year training, the candidate can write the CA Final Examinations, pass and become an auditor.

The candidates who successfully complete CA, can register with the ICAI and take up the profession as a Chartered Accountant.

ICAI has 163 branches around the country and over 1 Lakh members. Out of this, 1.50 Lakhs are privately practising Chartered Accountants. Another 1.5 Lakh are employed in various companies as Auditors or Chief Accountants.

Presently, there are job opportunities for Chartered Accountants in more than 19 Lakhs companies/offices in the state of Tamil Nadu. Around 10 Lakhs candidates are studying the CA Course. However, only 10000 candidates out of this become successful in completing the CA and become registered auditors.

There has been a spurt in the requirement of Chartered Accountants especially after the implementation of the new GST (Goods and Services Tax).  In this background, a special Educational Guidance Council has been set up in order to create awareness among the students regarding the CA course. An MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed jointly by the State Government Department of Education and the ICAI (Institution of the Chartered Accountants of India).

Through the help of 500 auditors in Tamil Nadu, awareness has been created on this for 15000 students. 1010 teachers have been exclusively selected in each district and they have been given an awareness training programme regarding the CA course..

A handbook has also been issued for the students who have completed +2. It has further been planned to form a council of commerce teacher and 2 auditors in each district to conduct awareness training programmes.

A list of the students interested in studying CA from each government school will be obtained from the Office of the Primary Education, and the organisation of conducting the special training programmes will be intensified.

CA Course Education Guidance councils have bee set up in 12 places Coimbatore, Erode, Kanchipuram, Kumbakonam, Salem, Sivakasi, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Tirupur, Thoothukudi, Madurai, and Vellore.
