Do you love having tea that is piping hot? Chances are that you will end up with esophageal cancer, says a new study.

The likeliness of getting esophageal cancer will double up in those who have hot tea of 75 degree Celsius and above.

Oesophagus is the pipe that lies between your throat and stomach. Just wait for 4 minutes before sipping on the tea. And it will largely bring down the likeliness of cancer, say study.

There is a huge population of tea and coffee lovers out there. Reports state that having very hot tea will increase esophageal cancer. Hence, experts advice not to take these beverages very hot. Just cool these down a bit and then have, say lead authors of the study conducted at the American Cancer Society.

The results of the study are published in the International Journal of Cancer. The study notably involved examining 50,045 individuals of the age range 40 to 75.

There is 90 percent risk of esophageal cancer for each of the 700 ml tea had in a day of temperature 60 degree Celsius or more, say researchers.

Not just tea, the study results are also applicable with coffee or hot chocolate and other kinds of hot beverages.

It is important to note that esophageal cancer is one of the 6 top cancer types in India. Globally, esophageal cancer stands in position-8. Compared to women, this type of cancer affects men more.

There were earlier reports (back in 2016) by the World Health Organization regarding the hazards of drinking beverages above 65 degree Celsius. Scientists claim that such hot beverage could easily affect the mouth lining and throat lining and cause tumors.
