The central government has been encouraging the trend to set up solar power stations which cause no harms to the environment. So, the central government has been offering the subsidy to set up solar roof panels in houses, educational institutions, etc.

In the state of Tamil Nadu, the public sector set up TEDA (Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency) has been the authority to offer this subsidy. The central government has accorded approval to the state government of Tamil Nadu to set up roof solar panels up to a capacity of 100 MW. So far, 675 individuals have applied for a total of 8500 kW. The subsidy for this has been granted.

In this situation, those who seek this subsidy have been given extended time until 30th June. An official from TEDA explained in this regard that subsidy of a maximum of Rs. 18000 will be granted to set up a solar roof panel of 1 kW capacity. An intensive awareness programmer was conducted on this to the public. Still, there was no enthusiastic response from the public. As compared to the other states, only the state of Tamil Nadu has the climate to offer solar electricity up to 300 days per year. The extended deadline for the subsidy offer expires on 30th June.

No information has been received so far from the central government about extending this deadline. So, the official informed it is advisable for those interested in setting up a solar station to contact the officials and get all the necessary assistance.
