These are the important signs or symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency

For the body to build healthy DNA plus make healthy blood cells and to make our nerves work properly and correctly, vitamin B12 is very essential for us. This vitamin B 12 absorption through foods gets slowed when we age and hence the deficiency of vitamin B12 takes place in us. Vitamin B12 is important for our eyesight plus for our mood etc. There are foods like eggs, milk, cheese, meat, fish etc that could be consumed by us to overcome this vitamin B12 deficiency. As a multivitamin or as food supplements this vitamin B12 could be taken by those who do not consume animal based products.

There are certain signs or symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency we must not ignore.

Tongue redness - This is one important sign that indicates that we have vitamin B12 deficiency. Bumps of pappillae are present in the tongue due to the lack of vitamin B12. This results in burning sensation of tongue and there would also be pain at the tongue tip. This could turn the tongue to reddish in colour. Not only that the taste sense could get diminished in us.

Being depressed - Brain chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin are affected and these could result in mood changes, depression etc in us. Even small things could create issues in us. So check for the vitamin B12 if any above mentioned signs are present.

Issues in vision - Not many of us are aware that vitamin B12 deficiency could cause problems in our eyesight also. It is said that in severe cases of this deficiency the optic nerve of eye get damaged. The blood vessel might increase in retina. These create blurred vision or other issues like double vision, light sensitivity etc.

Yellow skin colour - It is now revealed that when our skin becomes yellowish in colour then we might have vitamin B12 deficiency. The red blood cells become weak and this results in breaking down of these cells. As a result the bilirubin pigment is released and this gives yellowish colour to our skin.

Loss of memory - Often we get confused that memory loss in us could be because of Alzheimer’s disease. The lack of vitamin B12 could also create loss of memory in us. This vitamin B12 is responsible for creating red blood cells and our brain would not receive enough oxygen when sufficient red blood cells are not present. Finally our brain does not function properly and loss of memory is present.
