India has a vast railway network stretching across 1.32 lakh kilometers, out of which 1.09 lakh kilometers are active train-operating routes, according to official data from Indian Railways.

To increase train speed and enhance passenger safety on major rail corridors, the Railway authorities are taking focused steps to prevent unauthorized crossing by pedestrians and cattle. As part of this safety initiative, protective fencing and boundary walls are being constructed along railway tracks.

12,480 km of Rail Tracks Secured

So far, 12,480 kilometers of railway routes across India have been secured with fencing, ensuring that no one can cross the tracks illegally. This move is expected to significantly:

- Reduce accidents

- Improve operational safety

- Enable faster train movement on important routes

Officials said that fencing work will continue in a phased manner across other key rail corridors in the country.
