Normally, many vehicles get parked on the Thyagaraya Road in T. Nagar and this has been creating few issues for many there. Now, to stop this parking of vehicles on the road and to make the motorists park their vehicles in the multi-level car parking or MLCP, GCC has increased the amount for road parking. On Tuesday, 28th June 2022, council resolution to this effect was passed on and it took many by surprise.

At present, for 2 wheelers parking fee amount of Rs 5 per hour and parking fee amount of Rs 20 per hour for 4 wheelers are being collected by the Chennai Corporation is known.

The new hike in the parking fee amount would come into effect immediately and according to this new rule it would be Rs `15 per hour as parking fee for 2 wheelers and Rs 60 per hour as parking fee for 4 wheelers etc. It is said that those who park their vehicles at MLCP would be able to park at the old rates.

Though Greater Chennai Corporation  has built a superb MLCP here, the public still prefers parking their vehicles on the roads. For making the public to use more MLCP, this street parking fee amount has been increased now by the Chennai Corporation. This was mentioned by an official belonging to GCC.

At a cost of Rs 40 crores and to accommodate as many as 222 equivalent car spaces and 513 2 wheelers, MLCP was constructed. In the month of May not many used the MLCP here and the revenue collected was just Rs 1.16lakhs.

Except in T. Nagar, in other places in Chennai, the parking fee amount would be Rs 5 per hour for 2 wheelers and Rs 20 per hour for 4 wheelers. The reason for the hike in the parking fee at T. Nagar especially was explained by the officials belonging to Greater Chennai Corporation. As per them the under smart city project, parking lot was constructed here at a huge cost and maintaining this paking loit needs huge money. Therefore, the parking fee amount has been increased now.
