It has been two years now but the issue is still continuing!!

In ward 17 of the Tambaram Corporation, the underground drainage system has failed. As a result, sewage has been overflowing on the streets and this has been creating lots of issues for the residents here for the last 2 years. It is shocking to note that the officials have directed the sewage flow into Moovarasampettai Lake polluting the water body. As the sewage is present on the roads, many localities like Subham Nagar, Union Carbide Colony, Church Street, Ambedkar Nagar etc in Old Pallavaram have been badly affected. Sewage coming out of the houses could be witnessed in Church Street.

The road condition is bad and more than that unbearable stench due to sewage has been creating issues for many here. Many complaints were issued and despite those nothing was done for the sake of the residents. This was as per Mr. Krishnamoorthy, president of Federation of Ward17 Resident Welfare Association. The water stagnation has led to the breeding of mosquitoes and due to this the residents were unable to sleep at night. Many residents here now want the septic tank system to be back. Apart from the initial amount of Rs 17000 every month Rs 150 is being paid for the underground drainage scheme.

It was mentioned by Tambaram Corporation Commissioner Mr. M. Elangovan that revamping the underground drainage system would be done. He added that the corporation is trying its best to provide a solution for the residents.
