From Rs 33 crores collected in the year 2019, the fine amount that was collected by the Chennai police in the year 2020 was Rs 66 crores!! Shocking right!!
It is now said that the Covid-19 infection pandemic restrictions have turned out to be a huge money spinner for the Chennai police. Point is that the state police headquarters have mentioned that the Chennai police have collected a total amount of Rs 66.31 crores as penalty amount from the traffic violators in the year 2020. In 2019, the Chennai police have collected a fine amount of Rs 33.39 crores. .
In the last 5 years, the collection of amounts as fines for traffic violations has been increasing steadily. A fine amount of Rs 24.13 crores was collected from motorists in the year 2016.In 2017, the fine amount collected rose to Rs 25.58 crores and to Rs 27.83 crores in 2018. It must be taken into account that in 2019 the fine amount collected was RS 33. 39crores. In the state of Tamil Nadu, the fine amount collected for traffic violations increased. An amount of Rs 165.81 crores was collected for traffic violations in 2019 and it increased to Rs 218.32 crores in the year 2020.
