This time Durga Puja celebrations in Chennai would be subdued only!!

In the past, during Navarathri, it was common to come across larger than life idols of Goddess Durga at the temples. Things have changed now with the rapidly spreading Coronavirus infection threat. As a result, Durga puja this time would be held in a subdued manner by all Bengali associations.

In West Mambalam is located Kali Bari and the devotees conduct Navarathri pooja goellu and Durga maa puja. It is usual to come across different themes every year and in this year the theme is volunteers have made Mata Vaishnavo Devi temple.

It was revealed by Mr, Ganguli Kalikoill, secretary of Madras Kali Bari that by following the Covid-19 protocols the devotees would be allowed to come and worship Goddess Durga. He added that not only the Bengali community come here but also the devotees from other communities too.

The idol of Goddess Durga would be immersed in Palavakkam Beach on 15th October or Vijayadasami day. Information is that this time the idol would be taken in a closed vehicle and there would not be a procession. It is known that vijayadasami or dussehra is celebrated on the 10th day of Navarathri festival in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin or the 7th month of Hindu Luni-Solar calendar.
