Panguni Festival commences in Chennai Mylapore Lord Kapaleeswarar temple with a divine flag-hoisting ceremony

The procession of the Saivaite Saints, known as the 63 Nayanmars, is scheduled for April 4th.

This morning (Tuesday, March 28th), the famous grand Panguni Utsavam (festivals celebrated in the Tamil Calendar Month of Panguni) began at the Lord Kapaleeswarar temple in Chennai Metro City`s Mylapore with a divine flag-hoisting ceremony.

The most important event of the festival, the chariot procession known as Therottam, will be celebrated on April 3rd.

For centuries, it has been traditional to celebrate the Panguni festival on a grand scale at the Lord Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai Mylapore.

During the procession of the idol of Lord Kapaleeswarar on a chariot, which is the most important event of the grand Panguni Festival, lakhs of devotees from different distant places come to Mylapore to participate in this grand and famous occasion.

However, in the last two years, several restrictions were imposed due to the raging coronavirus pandemic.

With the coronavirus having abated and been brought under control, this year`s (2023) grand Panguni Festival at the Lord Kapaleeswarar temple in Chennai Mylapore has commenced with the divine flag-hoisting ceremony on Tuesday, March 28th, between 7:30 and 8:30 AM.
