In a move to widen its WiFi footprint, BSNL is joining hands with Google, the internet giant. That done, BSNL says, its users will be able to access their internet services through WiFi connectivity.

BSNL has been constantly upgrading its range of services to cater to the customer demands in this ever-changing internet era. For this, the telecom major has constantly been partnering with couple of technology firms.

In his note about this the Director of BSNL Board, Mr. Vivek Banzal says BSNL is eyeing to strengthen Digital India movement and widen its rural WiFi footprint. As a step to provide WiFi connectivity at railway stations, Google has partnered with Railtel.

Though there is substantial increase in total customers connected through internet, there is hardly 31 percent mobile broadband usage as of end of 2017 and it still remains back in India.

As customers start experiencing better connectivity through public WiFi and broadband, there is going to be increased expenditure towards buying new handsets and cellular broadband services, say reports.

Apart from leading to productivity improvements out of WiFi connectivity, there will also be improved GDP through public WiFi. It will be about $20 billion by the year 2017-19. Per annum, it shall be about $10 billion.

As we make more investments on public WiFi, it naturally gives rise to more opportunities for the mobile operators to reduce inundated traffic on their mobile networks which in turn allows to incorporate contemporary technologies like Hotspot 2.0 so that users can toggle between mobile network and WiFi connectivity as per their need.

It is to be noted that BSNL, a state-run telecom company is associating with Google to widen its WiFi connectivity in India. This move is said to aid customers with better use of BSNL internet connectivity.
