Life of a student is very important and the students get to know about many things in their lives only in their adolescent ages. It is known that many students these days get involved in many activities that bring shame to their family and society. To inculcate in children the respect for law, discipline, civic sense and empathy for the vulnerable sections of the society, the police belonging to Chennai city had launched SPC or Student Police Cadet on Tuesday, 22nd January 2019. This is spoken in high esteem by many now.

It is well known that in the state of Kerala, this SPC is already doing its work. On Tuesday morning, city police commissioner, Mr. A. K. Viswanathan made many heads turn when he launched this SPC at the Chennai city commissionerate in Vepery. This launching function also saw important personalities like Mr. Shanmuga Sundaram, district collector and Mr. Gopala Krishnan who is the Chennai district education officer or DEO north.

The commissioner of police of Chennai, Mr. Viswanathan expressed his thoughts on this SPC and said the programme has identified as many as 138 schools and out of the 138 schools, 95 schools belonged to the government and 43 belonged to government aided. It is revealed that from each school as many as 44 boys and girls would take part and a total of 6072 boys and girls have got enrolled in this SPC.

Mr. Viswanathan hinted that the schools would provide khaki uniform plus caps, belt, shoes and handbooks etc. He later spoke about how the government would provide an amount of Rs 50,000 to each school for educational assistance, training and contingencies. The important point is this SPC programme has been implemented by both the department of school and by the revenue department. Apart from training the students to respect law, practise discipline, civic sense etc, this SPC programme would also do its best in the strengthening the commitment towards the family, community and environment etc. It is brought out that by this superb programme the negative tendencies such as substance abuse, deviant behaviour, intolerance etc would also be resisted by the students.
