Chennai`s public transport system is getting a tech upgrade! The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is set to introduce Passenger Information Displays at 71 bus termini and 532 bus stops across the city. This initiative is part of the Chennai Intelligent Transport System (CITS), funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
These displays will provide real-time information on bus locations, arrival, and departure times, making commuting more convenient for passengers. While the MTC has already launched the Chennai Bus App for real-time bus tracking, the new displays cater to those who prefer not to use mobile apps.
Approximately 4.26 lakh people have already downloaded the Chennai Bus App for their daily commutes. The CITS project, costing Rs 136 crore, will be implemented soon, thanks to the efforts of Chennai Smart City Ltd. This project includes various features like an automatic vehicle location system, passenger information displays, depot management, and more, benefiting both passengers and MTC staff. Stay tuned for updates as these improvements roll out!
