Information about time extension at Koyambedu wholesale market in Chennai

The working time at the highly popular Koyambedu wholesale market has changed is well known to us. This has been due to the new restrictions that have come into force now. The traders have mentioned about the cascading effect brought out by these restrictions.
After the new restrictions have come up, the number of retailers visiting this market has gone down by 40% to 50% and this was according to some merchants. It is now revealed that time extension for 2 hours has been sought for the retail fruits and vegetables outlets from the TN government.
The retailers have been left with less time to purchase perishable goods from the wholesale market. This has been pointed out by Mr. S. Chandran, president of Koyambedu Periyar Market Licensed Merchants Association. Truth is that the retailers have to wind up purchases by early morning itself and have just 2 to 3 hours left to carry out business till noon. On Friday, 7TH May, sales dropped at this important market and it was due to the fact that many retailers who had stock left from the previous day did not visit the market. Many trucks have been finding it tough to load goods in the vehicles due to the restriction in the working hours here.
