The lower part of the uterus that connects vagina is the cervix and the cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix is termed cervical cancer. Truth is that cervical cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in women across the world. It is important to note that in India this cancer has been increasing at an alarming rate. If detected early and managed effectively, then cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer. This was according to WHO or the World Health organisation.

A form of virus that gets transferred from one person to another during sexual intercourse is HPV or Human Papillomavirus. Fact is almost all types of cervical cancer are because of this HPV. When a woman gets affected with this HPV then she might not show any symptoms also. In most women, HPV would go away but if it stays then it might lead to cervical cancer. When compared to other carcinomas, cervical cancer spreads at a slower rate and it might even take 10 to 12 years to progress inside the human body. Cervical cancer could cause physical as well as emotional issues in a woman.

Not many would be aware of the fact that there are 100 strains of HPV present and the most cancer causing strains are HPV`16 and HPV 18.

Various factors that could lead to cervical cancer are

Having multiple sex partners:
It is believed that women who have multiple sex partners would have more chances of getting cervical cancer due to the fact that they have more chances of getting sexually transmitted disease.

Socio economic factor:
Not having access to healthcare could also make a woman more at risk of getting cervical cancer. Time to time screening is needed for cervical cancer. Lack of education could affect awareness of cervical cancer.

Smoking:
Those women who have the habit of smoking would have more chances of getting cervical cancer than other women who do not smoke. It is said that regular exposure to carcinogenic agents could lead to changes in the cells and then to cervical cancer.

Weakened immune system:
It must be taken into account that medication or condition that could weaken the immune system could lead to cervical cancer. Point is that women with low immunity would not have the capacity to fight any infection or disease that spreads in the body resulting in multiple diseases.
