Fine imposition for littering by Chennai Corporation

Chennai Corporation announces the starting of imposing hefty fines for littering in the public places. The amount of fine was increased to a maximum level of Rs 25,000 for the violation of the rules.
According to the Section 349 of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act of 1919, the government can collect fines from Rs 100 to Rs 25,000 for littering. The passing of the new rules in the law comes from the solid waste management body of the Chennai Corporation.
The sources of Chennai Corporation confirms a fine of Rs 25,000 for event organizers who are involved in burning wastes, littering and non-segregation. An amount of Rs 50 can be collected from any violators dealt with statutory provisions. The bylaws and regulations are applicable for domestic, commercial and institutional bodies.
Both residential and non-residential areas categorized into this updated regulations of the law. Storm water drains and underground sewage system gets congested as the result of large littering done in some of the main areas of the city. Water bodies gets affected together forming a chain reaction of many negative effects in the city infrastructure.
So for a resident who dumps a garbage on the street leading to congestion of wastes will be charged up to Rs 1000 as fine by Chennai Corporation. Owners of non-residential building littering and burning wastes will also be penalized under the act for Rs 2,000. Business bodies or traders littering or dumping garbage will be fined or Rs 1,000 said the sources of Chennai Corporation.
An important rule for people spitting in the public places and those who do not use public garbage container will have to pay Rs 100 as fine.
