Making hay while the sun shines!!

This is exactly what the private bus operators have been doing in the last 2 days. Taking into account the muhurtham days on Tuesday and Wednesday, the private bus operators in Chennai have doubled the bus ticket fares. It is learnt that a one way ticket from Chennai to other cities like Madurai and Coimbatore in an air-conditioned sleeper bus is priced at a minimum Rs 2500. The passengers are finding it tough to shell out huge amounts as bus ticket fares.

As per a commuter from Chennai to Madurai it was clear that all tickets were full in the rains and tatkal tickets got booked fast. This has made him and many others opt for private buses now. He concluded that the passengers have been forced to shell out huge amounts as per the demands of the private bus operators.

It was brought out that on Tuesday there was chaos at the CMBT at Koyambedu in Chennai. Truth is that the passengers going to places like Madurai, Tirunelveli etc had to wait for 2 hours minimum to get their buses.

On both Tuesday and Wednesday, apart from the usual 2100 buses another 300 buses were operated by the TNSTC and SETC. This was pointed out by some officers from the state transport dept.

It was mentioned by a passenger at CMBT that the majority of the buses were non air-conditioned and in the summer season many prefer mostly air-conditioned buses only. He explained that in the handful of air-conditioned buses about 90% of the seats were reserved online.

Even at other transit hubs like Poonamallee, Tambaram and Madhavaram etc, the situation was the same. Right from 2pm on Tuesday, the crowd started to grow at Perungalathur. Those waiting to board buses to places like Villupuram, Tindivanam and Cuddalore etc did not have proper bus shelter also.
