Posted on: 24/May/2023 9:10:45 AM
The westerlies would gain strength in the coming days and due to this the day temperatures would increase once again towards 40 degrees Celius in Chennai. In the last 2 days, the weather has turned little pleasant for the residents is known.

The temperatures might touch 40 degrees mark till June first week and this was mentioned by some weather bloggers. The end of May might witness light rains in the city and this was brought out by private weather forecasters. Below normal temperatures were recorded by the weather observatories in the last two days in the city.

Truth is that the cyclonic circulation has brought clouds over Chennai and this resulted in temperatures  to come down a little. Information gathered is that on Monday Nungambakkm recorded 35.6 degrees Celisus and Meenambakkam recorded 36.5 degrees Celsius. This was 2 degrees below the normal. Yesterday, the temp was one degree below the normal in these places. The maximum temp would hover around 38 to 39 degrees Celius and minimum temp would be around 28 to 29 degrees Celius for the next 48 hours in Chennai.

It was explained by Mr. N. Senthamarai Kannan, director, regional weather forecasting centre, IMD that formation of clouds plus not so strong westerlies led to the drop in the temp in the city. He added that for the next 2 days the temperatures might be on the positive side around 38to 39 degrees. Around 26th May, westerlies would be gaining strength and this has been shown by the weather models. The hot and dry winds would arrive leading to hot weather in Chennai.

Chennai weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep John highlighted that the westerlies would be strong, offshore winds would be strong and sea breeze arrival would be delayed. He added that this was the weather pattern that would be there before the onset of SW monsoon.
