More open spaces to play plus more greenery etc in Chennai!!

It is known that the Chennai Corporation has sanctioned nearly Rs 90 crores for setting up of parks and playfields in the open space reservation lands or OSR lands. By this, the sports enthusiasts would have more open spaces to play and Chennai would become greener.
It is learnt that under the Singara Chennai 2.0project an amount of Rs 61 cr has been sanctioned for setting up of 169 parks. An amount of Rs 28 cr would be used to build 68 playgrounds
The GCC has also recovered 303 encroached OSR lands in the last 2 years and 243 parks plus playfields have been set up on the recovered lands.
By utilising Namakku Naame Thittam Funds,the corporation wants the residents welfare associations to improve their OSR lands, parks and playfields etc. This was mentioned by the GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi. He hinted that if the citizens contribute 50 percent of the funds themselves then the GCC would contribute the rest amount and would entrust the work to residents. He added that the OSR lands must be used by the public and not become encroached.
The zonal teams are also doing their work of inspecting the present OSR lands in Chennai. In a systematic way, the OSR lands in the hands of the private apartments and institutions are also being put into public use now. He concluded that the citizens must bring OSR lands into the notice of zonal officers etc for the action to be taken and recovery of the lands.
