Greater Chennai Corporation completes beautification of five flyovers under Singara Chennai 2.0

Under the Singara Chennai 2.0 project, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has completed the beautification of five bridges at a cost of Rs 1.64 crore. The project includes painting, planting saplings, and setting up artificial fountains to increase the greenery space. The GCC is currently working on beautifying six more flyovers in the city for a total of Rs 10 crore.

The Singara Chennai 2.0 project, mandated by the State government, aims to beautify major bridges in phases. The GCC maintains 26 major bridges in the city, including flyovers, railway flyovers, vehicle subways, pedestrian subways, footbridges, and more. A total of Rs 25 crore has been allocated for the project.

In the first phase of the project, five bridges were beautified, including the Koyambedu flyover, Maduravoyal bypass flyover, and others at a total cost of Rs 1.64 crore. The GCC is currently working on six more flyovers, including those in Pantheon road and Casa major road in Royapuram zone and two flyovers in Adyar zone.

The GCC has spent Rs 25 lakh and 40 lakh on beautifying bridges from North Usman Road to Mahalingapuram road junction and Kalaivanar flyover in GN Chetty road, respectively. The government has allocated an estimated cost of Rs 2.41 crore for the flyover beautification works in Royapuram zone and over Rs 4 crore for the works in Adyar zone.
