Surprising News!! A new plan from CUMTA to help the metro trains passengers in Chennai

After the Coronavirus pandemic has been brought under control, normalcy has come back in Chennai. Many people now use metro trains to reach their destinations in Chennai. In this scenario, CUMTA or Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority has thought about implementing a `Lite Metro` project in Chennai for the sake of last mile connectivity for the passengers. This would be done to make more people use metro trains in the city.
Now, a Comprehensive Mobility Plan or CMP is being prepared by the authority and the study would be a part of this. This was according to an officer from CUMTA. The various stretches in the city where lite metro lines would be created would be taken into account by this plan. It must be noted that the Lite Metro lines would be linked with the metro stations. Now, metro trains are running full of passengers especially in the peak hours. Between June 2015 and December 2022, 15 crores plus trips were made by the residents.
It is now believed by CMRL that by providing last mile connectivity to the metro stations using Lite Metro would increase the metro train patronage even more. Point is that Lite Metros would carry less number of passengers than normal metro trains and the cost of the project would be lesser.
Just similar to the trams, Lite Metros would run on the roads and they would not need elevated tracks. The Lite Metros would have one or two compartments only. There are also plans to implement Lite Metros in cities like Delhi, Kozhikode etc in the future. It is known that at present the metro stations in Chennai have been connected with share autos, autois, small feeder buses etc.
Some metro train commuters expressed their thoughts and spoke about how reaching the metro stations was difficult. They mentioned that they would have to take either their own vehicles, park them at the metro stations and pay the parking amount or take an auto. They want cost effective feeder services to be provided so that they would be able to use the metro trains more frequently.
