Chennaites are not able to sleep at night now??

Posted on: 24/Jan/2023 9:41:05 AM
It has been over a month and half now since the intermittent rains have made their presence felt in Chennai.  The issue now is that the intermittent rains have left behind lots of mosquitoes and as a result of that the Chennai residents are not able to sleep well at night.

There are some parents who fear that the mosquitoes would be triggering vector borne diseases like typhoid, dengue etc in their kids. It is learnt that mosquitoes that breed on the stagnant water or in the empty plots in Chennai create more issues for the public.

In localities like Ambattur, Maduravoyal, Mogappair and Alandur etc in Chennai, the residents affected by mosquitoes have flagged the owners who have abandoned their lands for the breeding.

It was brought out by Mr. S. Swaminathan of JAMBA in Mogappair in Chennai that they have written letters to several plot owners to drain the stagnant water but no action has been taken by these owners.   He added that the residents were not able to come out due to mosquitoes after 6pm in the evening.

There are many residents who have complained about the alarming mosquito population now through the Namma Chennai app but no solution has been provided till now as per a civic activist. He spoke about how he had complained about mosquito breeding in an open plot at Mylapore and how the sanitary inspector had closed the issue by putting a false image belonging to another place where workers were involved in the fogging activity.

It was mentioned by an Ambattur resident that the Greater Chennai Corporation  must consider fogging seriously to kill the mosquitoes. It is true that GCC on its part has collected a fine amount of Rs 33000 from the residents for allowing mosquitoes breeding
