Saving 3000 tonnes of carbon emissions in a single day!! Yes, it`s true!!

Not only the battery operated garbage collection vehicles from GCC are making the waste collection work easy for many workers but vehicles also help in reduction in the emissions.

It is noteworthy that the diesel operated vehicles used for shifting garbage from the resources recovery centres to the dump yards would emit more when compared to the battery operated vehicles. The net carbon emissions have been kept to a minimum by these battery operated vehicles. T

It was mentioned by a data from GCC that GCC has 5863 battery operated garbage collection vehicles  that would save 3000 tonnes of carbon emission per day. Truth is that one vehicle reduces emissions by about 0.5 tonnes.

It is known that GCC has been planning to set up EV charging stations at 88 locations in Chennai and add 365 battery operated vehicles. In the zones from where it collects garbage, GCC currently uses 2107 vehicles now. In 7 zones belonging to south Chennai, Urbaser Sumeet uses 2929 vehicles to collect garbage. As many as 837 vehicles are being used by the Chennai Enviro now.

Zero emissions would not be possible technically with the BoV`s but it would reduce the emissions when compared  to the diesel operated vehicles. This was revealed by Mr. Geo Damin, SWD and environmental expert. He wanted the GCC to phase out the trucks and replace them with EV. There are plans to phase out hMV and replace them with EV.
