Surprising news about the scrapping of metro stations now in Chennai!!

Four metro stations at Meenakshi College, Doveton, Foreshore Estate and Thapalpetti would be scrapped from the proposed metro stations in the phase-2 in Chennai. It seems that Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL has learnt enough lessons from operating metro train services in the phase-one. The reasons for these 4 proposed metro stations not being there in phase-2 would be due to factors like patronage, traffic study and cost cutting etc.
It must be noted that the CMRL has already got approval to build these metro stations in phase-2. This was as per an officer belonging to CMRL. He hinted about the rationalising of these 4 metro stations in phase-2 after ascertaining various aspects like patronage, traffic study, the distance between 2 metro stations and cost cutting etc.
He mentioned that rationalising and timely changes in the project design of phase-1 could have helped to take the decision to leave out some of the stations. Considering other bigger metro stations around the vicinity, Arumbakkam metro station could have been avoided. It is now said that CMRL has been carefully deliberating on the number of metro stations. Parking space, stretches etc to mull several aspects in the metro phase-2 construction.
Rationalising 4 metro stations are being considered at present after taking into account DPR and experts study etc. If the cost cutting and patronage were the reasons for discussions about scrapping of Meenakshi College, Doveton and Thapalpetti metro stations, then improper alignment was the reason for Foreshore Estate metro station.
There would also be difficulty in getting environmental approval because it is present inside CRZ. Truth is that no changes are being considered for the underground metro stations in the 3 corridors in phase-2. There would be as many as 128 metro stations in 3 corridors in the phase-2 and this would be according to the original plan.
