What has compulsory linking of Aadhaar number with Tangedco e-bill has done to many consumers in Chennai now?

To pay the electricity bill online or at the counters at the section offices, Tangedco has made it compulsory for the power consumers to link their Aadhaar number with the service connection number. This has not gone down well now as many consumers are unhappy and angry.
It is noteworthy that Tangedco provided a link on its web portal to seed Aadhaar last week and this after Tangedco made it compulsory to link the Aadhaar number with the electricity service connection number. It was brought to light by a resident from Perambur that he received a SMS from Tangedco linking Aadhaar number with the service number. He added that though his pay date was24th November he had paid on 22nd Nov itself.
Truth is that he was directed to the Aadhaar linking page instead of accepting his paymement.The shocking fact is that payment could not be made even after linking the Aadhar number with the electricity service number. This issue was highlighted by many consumers.
As per a senior officer from Tangedco that Aadhaar linking was a simple procedure and the dept wanted that to be completed at the earliest. Only after the section officers approve it in the system after verification, the online Aadhaar linking process would get completed.
He threw light on how the linking process would get over immediately if the consumers link Aadhaar number with the electricity service connection number at the counters. The officer concluded that the issues faced by the consumers would be resolved one by one.
