81 lakes are full of water now - Increase in the water levels in Chembarambakkam, Puzhal etc!!

Chembarambakkam Lake, Puzhal Lake etc supply drinking water to the residents of Chennai is a known fact. Now, the water level in these lakes have increased due to the heavy rains witnessed in Chennai and its nearby places due to the NE monsoon. It is now revealed that 81 lakes present in Thiruvallur district and in the Kancheepuram districts are now full of water.

Puzhal Lake:
Now due to the heavy rains, the Puzhal lake with a capacity of 3300 mcft and height of 21.2 feet has got water storage of 2763 mcft. The water level is at a height of 16.76 feet here. This was at 4pm in the evening on Friday 4th November 2022. In Puzhal Lake at 4pm yesterday, 292 cubic feet of water per second was coming and 100 cubic feet of water was getting discharged.

Poondi Lake:
Poondi lake has a capacity of 3231 mcft and has a height of 35feet. The water storage here is 874 mcft and the water level is of height 25.20 feet. The water flow here is 660 cubic feet per second.

Sholavaram Lake:
Sholavaram Lake has got a capacity of 1081 million cubic feet and ahealigt of 18.86 feet of water storage of 262 million cubic feet. The water level is at 6.79 feet here and the water flow is 95 cubic feet per second.

Kannankottai - Thervoy Kandigai Lake:
It must be noted that the water levels have reached full capacity at the Kannankottai-Thervoy Kandigai Lake. This lake has a capacity of 500 million cubic feet and height of 36.61 feet. Here, 125 cubic feet of water that is received by this lake per second is getting discharged as excess water.

Chembarambakkam Lake:
The total capacity of this lake is 24 feet and there is now 21feet of water present here. Per second, 642 cubic feet of water is received and 118 cubic feet of water per second is getting discharged now.

In the district of Thiruvallur, 49 lakes have been filled with water now because of heavy rains. It must be noted that this district has got a total of 1555 lakes. As many as 574 lakes come under Kosasthalaiyar River Watershed Zone and Arani River Watershed Zone. Point is that 581 lakes come under the Rural Development Dept.

Till yesterday morning out of 49 lakes as manyas38 lakes have been filled up with water and these lakes come under the Water  Resources Dept. Remaining 11 water filled up lakes come under Rural Development Dept. It was mentioned by the District Administration that 162 lakes were 75% full, 239 lakes were 50% full and 434 lakes were 25% full.

In the same manner, out of 382 lakes in the district of Kancheepuram  22 lakes have more than 75% water, 110 lakes have more than 50% water and 170 lakes have more ththan 25% water. Point is that just 47 lakes have less than 25 percent flow now. The Thamal lake and Mamandur lake that are present in the district of Kancheepuram are also full now.
