For 4 months, GCC would not be carrying out the SWD works in north Chennai?

The dug up pits have been an issue at north Chennai now!!

It is noteworthy that these dug up pits have been responsible for mosquitoes breeding plus traffic congestions etc here. There were many complaints from the residents regarding these. It is now said that GCC has abandoned the storm water drains or SWD works in north Chennai for 4 months.

In May month itself, pits were dug up on the Post Office Street at the intersection with the Iyappa Chetty Street but the works haven`t yet started by GCC. It was confirmed by a resident here that the pits were full of water and this has led to the breeding of mosquitoes. There is now a reduction in the street width and due to that there is a huge risk of pedestrians and motorists falling inside.

Not only in Mannady but also in nearby localities like Royapuram and in Old Washermenpet etc, GCC has dug up pits for SWD works but the work hasn`t yet started.  It is important to note that even in the very busy Tiruvottiyur High Road pits that were dug up were closed with concrete in a haphazard manner. It was later mentioned by Mr. S. Dayanand Krishnan, an civil engineer that individual contractors on many occasions get multiple projects and this leads to slow progress in the SWDs work. Truth is that the actual technical capacity of manpower and machinery equipment deployment has been limited to one project. For showing progress and to avoid cancellation of SWD works etc, the contractor digs open drain pits at several places.
