Shocking statement regarding property tax payment in Chennai

September 30th is the deadline to pay the property tax for the year 2022-23.
The Chennai Corporation has revealed that just 52 percent assesses have paid their tax till now. Information is that out of 13lakh assesses in Chennai just around 6.88lakhs have paid their property tax. Till now, an amount of Rs 570crores has been collected as tax amount.
Around 63% of the large tax payers having properties measuring 50000sqft and above have paid their property taxes in Chennai. It is now expected that more property owners would be paying their tax amount in the last week of September month before the last date. An amount if Rs 650crores is expected to be collected till the month end. The Greater Chennai Corporation would impose fines for the delayed payment of property tax after the deadline. It is well known that the property tax amount has been increased from 1st April 2022 onwards.
