The long wait has come to an end now!!

For almost 3 years or for exactly 1020 days, the cricket crazy fans across the world have been eagerly waiting for the 71st century from Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.

Yesterday, 8th September 2022, was a special day as Virat Kohli made his 71st hundred and entered into the record books. He rewrote many amazing cricket records yesterday when he made unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup T20 match. His previous hundred or the 70th hundred came in the test match against Bangladesh in 2019 is well known.

It all happened after Rohit Sharma opted to rest for the match against Afghanistan. India batted first and Virat Kolhi came as the opening batsman for India. He made glorious 122 not out and thereby made a huge contribution for India`s mammoth total of 212.

The Afghanistan players did not have any clue how to play fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he teased them with prodigious swing and clever change of pace etc. He took fabulous 5 wickets by giving away just 4 runs in his spell of 4 overs.  The combination of Virat Kohli and Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped India to register a sensational win against Afghanistan.

On his way to 122 not out, Virat Kohli created plethora of world records. This was his first hundred after 1020 long days and he equaled Australia`s Ricky Pontiing`s 71 international hundreds. Now, Just Sachin Tendulkar is above him with mind blowing 100 hundreds. By scoring hundred, Virat Kohli became just 4th player from India to score 100`s in all the three formats like Tests, Odis and T20I. Other Indian players who have already achieved this triple were Suresh Raina, K.L. Rahul and Rohit Sharma.

Virat Kohli also made 24,000 international runs and he was also the quickest to achieve the feat in just 522 innings beating other popular players like Sachin Tendulkar, Kumara Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardena, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid.  Virat Kohli also made the highest score ever made by any player in the Asia Cup T20I format and till now he is the only batsman to have made 100 in the Asia Cup T20 format. He also became the oldest Indian to score international T20 hundred yesterday. By making 122 not out, Kohli also became the highest run scorer in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup. Hope he carries this form in the upcoming T20 World Cup and helps India to win the T20 World Cup!!
