In Chennai from Today 6th July - Rs. 500/- fine for NOT wearing a face mask!

Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh has announced that failure to wear face masks at public places such as Buses and Train Stations, etc., will entail a penalty of Rs. 500/- from today (Wednesday, 6th July)!

The spread of the coronavirus has been more intense in the past 2 weeks in the Chennai Metro City! Awareness is being made at this juncture to wear face masks and keep social distancing as a preventive measure against this spread!

As a measure to make the public compulsorily wear face masks, it has been already mandatory to wear face masks at public places such as Bus termini, Railway stations, market areas, commercial complexes, film theatres, and the offices of the public and private sector organisations, hospitals, etc.

Action has been taken to impose a penalty on the citizens as per the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act 1939! A special committee has been formed comprising Health Analysts! This committee has imposed a penalty of Rs. 500/- on the citizens who fail to wear face masks from today (Wednesday, 6th July)!

In advisory recommendations sent by the Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to the public vehicle drivers/ conductors, Director of the Transport Corporation, commercial complexes, owners of marriage halls and film theatres, it is mentioned:

“The Public MUST keep social distancing at Public places such as marriage halls, film theatres, commercial complexes, and temples and MUST wear face masks! All the above-mentioned public places MUST be cleansed with sanitisers! Over-crowding of the public MUST be avoided! Officials MUST be appointed to check and ensure this! The bus drivers and conductors MUST wear face masks and the conductor must ensure that the travelling passengers MUST ALL wear face masks! The Staff at the Workshops of the transport corporations MUST wear face masks and keep social distancing as well!

Further, in case of needing coronavirus vaccination, the manager of the workshop may approach the concerned Zonal Welfare Officer to facilitate organising a vaccination camp at the workshop itself!”
