Practo Consultant Data - Manifold increase in online consultations of doctors in Chennai and TN

Many people in Chennai are in home quarantine or home isolation due to Covid-19 infection and due to this online consultations have become more now. After getting reduced for some time, now once again online consultations have increased as the number of Covid-19 infection cases have increased.
It is now said that 60percent of the doctors have spent more than 8 hours in a day on online consultation during Covid-19. This was according to the Practo consultations data from April 2020 to April 2022. When compared to the pre-pandemic period, the demand for tele-consultations has increased by 771percent. In India, 35percent of the doctors have given consultations to the patients for more than 12 hours per day also. Information is that the average consultation time was from 7 minutes to 30minutes. Mostly, the doctors have advised the patients regarding dealing with Covid-19 infection.
Dr. Narendranath Jena, senior consultant belonging to Meenakshi Mission Hospital explained that it was mainly due to the mild nature of the infection many preferred to be in home quarantine and get treated online. He added that some people get anxiety due to newer symptoms or due to some change in their health condition etc. Online consultancy becomes more important when there are home clusters. Until March 2022, e-Sanjeevani online consultation also received amazing response from the people and there were 18.5lakh consultations in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is important to note that Tamil Nadu stands 4th in utilising e-Sanjeevani online consultation. When the e-Sanjevani online platform for consultancy was launched, the response was good for online consultations and e-prescription. This was as per some officers belonging to the national health Mission.
