Many Chennaites are now buying their second homes away from the busy atmosphere, at vacation spots etc!!

Who doesn’t like to have a second home these days and that too near the mountains away from the busy population?

Truth is that many Chennai residents are buying second homes away from the pressures of the city or from their main residences for relaxing and recovering from the hard times due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The demand for having a second home now has increased like never before in the past.

A consumer survey was conducted by Anarock and according to the survey it was clear that 41% of property buyers want a second home for self use. It was brought out by the study that 53% would like to buy a new property in the mountains. Twenty six percent would love to have their second homes in and around the city where they have been living. It is surprising that atleast 21% want to buy a second home near coastal areas.

There has been a growing demand for second homes or holiday homes now. Many Chennai residents prefer beachfront properties mostly. Fact is that both middle class as well as affluent persons prefer beach properties as an alternative to their current homes.

The beach near homes provided Chennaites a home away from their homes and a home that was away and safe from Coronavirus pandemic. There are many Chennai residents who prefer mountain places like Ooty or Kodaikanal for buying their second homes. Information is that the average prices in Ooty is between Rs 3800 to Rs 6500 sq ft and  in Kodaikanal the average prices range between Rs 5000 to Rs 12500 sq ft.

It is noteworthy that near Chennai, many prefer Mahabalipuram and Kovalam Main Road on ECR for their second homes. In Mahabalipuram, the average prices are Rs 4000 to Rs 7000 per sq ft whereas in Kovalam Main Road the average prices are Rs 5000 to Rs 7500 per sq ft.

The sensational information is that there are many IT professionals now who continue their WFH by going to vacation hotspots nearby and rent a house for a week or more and work from there. It is now said that this trend would continue for some more time.
