For the last seven years, the Mega south India job fair has been making its presence felt in a sensational way is a known fact. This mega job fair has been helping the physically challenged to find satiable placements. This year there was a south India mega job fair that was held at Loyola College in Chennai and what was special this year was the mega job fair that included even the trans- persons.

The south India mega job fair on Saturday witnessed many people in tears (after getting suitable jobs) and many in frustration (as they were told that their age and work experience exceed the criteria). The Loyola College campus was full of trans-persons and those with physical issues with their resumes. Many belonging to the northern states were also there at this mega job fair and this surprised the recruiters from corporates like TCS, E&Y etc.

The volunteers were playing their roles well by responding to the sign language of the participants and assisting the wheel-chaired persons. The volunteers even went a step ahead and comforted those who were rejected by the companies that came to recruit the persons.

According to Mr. Kasim Basith, founder of We Are Your Voice initiative, in this year trans-persons were also included for the first time as they too needed jobs. More than 150 companies took part in the mega job fair for the sake of 3500 vacancies and the job fair was successful.

Mr Basith then explained that out of 2521 job seekers who attended the job fair as many as 320 persons got direct orders and 1219 were shortlisted by the companies. Mr. M. Mahesh, director of talent acquisition of AGS Health expressed his thoughts and spoke about how the mega job fair was a unique opportunity to meet and recruit many diverse candidates at a single place. He shed light on how as a part of his company’s D`& I or Diversity and Inclusion policy 50 to 60 persons with visual, auditory and locomotive issues have been hired this year. These persons would be given training in areas such as data entry, voice and finance to support functions of the company.

It is superb to note that in the Hyderabad based AGS Health company a separate washroom facility has been built for the sake of trans- persons. The workplace mentor would associate with those having physical issues and provide assistance.

It was revealed by Mr. Sultan Refai, founder of Superlyf that start-ups provided more flexibility when compared to the corporates. He added that his company has hired 2 trans-persons and they would be provided training for the front-end roles at the stores. He was of the view that his customers too would appreciate the move.
