State Minister for School Education: Tamil Nadu Schools to reopen on 13th June!!

Tamil Nadu State Government Minister for School Education, Anbil Mahesh has announced that the schools will reopen on 13th June for the students studying from the 1st Standard to the 10th Standard.

The schools will reopen on 20th June for the students of the 12th Standard and on 27th June for the 11th Standard students.

The State Minister for School Education of Tamil Nadu, Anbil Mahesh had a session with the press reporters this morning (Wednesday, 24th May and announced the above news!

Earlier, it was shared that the schools were likely to reopen by end of June as decided by the Department of School Education.

With important activities such as the arrangements for providing breakfast for the students of the 1st to 5th Standard, renovation of the school premises, the training for the teachers etc., are in progress, it was decided to postpone the reopening. In this situation, the announcement has now been made that the schools will reopen on 13th June.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic 1st wave, the reopening of schools got delayed in Tamil Nadu. As such, the schools reopened only by September in the last academic year. However, the 2nd wave of the coronavirus pandemic force the closure of schools again in January and then reopened again in February!!

In this environment, it was announced that the Public Examinations will be conducted this year. With revision tests being conducted, the Public Examinations for the 10th, 11th & 12th Standards students commenced in May and are in progress, they are scheduled to conclude by end of May.

Meanwhile, summer vacation was declared from the 14th of May for the students of Government and government-aided schools following the Tamil Nadu State Government Syllabus. It had been announced that the schools for these students will reopen in the 2nd week of June. This has been confirmed now.

However, as some important activities such as correction of answer-sheets for the 10th Standard, +1, & +2 students, training sessions for the teachers, the renovation of the school premises in over 10000 schools, etc., are in progress, the Department of School Education has decided to postpone the reopening of schools only for the students of the 11th Standard (+1) and the 12th Standard (+2) on the 3rd or the 4th week of June.

Apart from all the above, the activities for the provision of breakfast for the students studying from the 1st Standard to the 5th Standard in the Government High Schools, are in progress and the 1st Phase of this scheme, some districts are to implement this. So, the preparatory activities for this scheme implementation the decision to postpone schools reopening has been taken!
