The cyclonic storm has been responsible for the temperatures to go down a bit in the last few days in Chennai. On Monday, 13rd May 2022, the highest temperature was recorded with Meenambakkam in Chennai and it was 40.1degrees Celsius. The residents found it very difficult due to the sudden increase in the temperature. In Nungambakkam, the temperature recorded yesterday was 39.2 degrees Celsius.

Other places like Cuddalore recorded 39.3 degrees Celsius and Madurai recorded 30.1 degrees Celsius. A temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Trichy yesterday. The maximum temperature in Chennai and in TN might vary on day to day basis and this was mentioned by Mr. S. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, RMC, Chennai. He shed light on how if the district was predicted to get rains and thunderstorms etc then the temperature would come down.

It must not be forgotten that in the month of May in 2017 the highest temperature was recorded in Chennai and it was 42.6 degrees Celsius. In the year 2019 and in the year 2021 the highest temperature was 41.5 degrees Celsius and 41.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

It was mentioned by Mr. Pradeep John, weather blogger that the hottest day of the year in Chennai city (Nungambakkam) was close to 39 degrees Celsius with 50percent humidity.

In Chennai, many localities like Ambattur, Porur etc registered 37 degrees to 38 degrees Celsius at 5:30 pm in the evening too. Till the first week of June, the temperature would remain high has been brought out now. It must be noted that the westerlies are strong and the heat would be pushed towards the coastal regions. Sea breezes would find it hard to reach the land and this would be due to opposing winds along with the shore winds. Hence, the Chennai temperatures would be higher till the first week of next month.
