Recently, the tomato fever has been creating panic amongst the public in Kerala. This has caused some fear in the minds of the people even in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. On Friday, 13th May 2022, health secretary of TN Mr. J. Radhakrishnan has asked the public not to panic regarding the spread of tomato fever.

It is not at all true that tomato fever has spread in Tamil Nadu and the public in TN need not worry. It is noteworthy that even Kerala state has not announced tomato fever as a dangerous infection. Tomato fever is just like a viral infection and not like bird flu or rat fever type.  The health secretary made his presence felt at Tiruppur and he inspected the construction works of Tiruppur Government medical College and Hospital.

He then threw light on how 11.06 crores of vaccines has been administered in TN till now and how 93.5% of people above the age of 18 have got vaccinated. It must be taken into account that nearly 67 lakhs people have benefited by ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ scheme. Point is that there is no ban on shawarma in Tamil Nadu and the health department has asked the hotels to sell it within 2 hours of preparing it.

Mr. J. Radhakrishnan later revealed that every day 6 to 7 lakhs people go to the government hospitals every day to get treatment as out- patients. It is learnt that in those hospitals with more than 100 beds sanitation works are being outsourced.
