Amazing news regarding the Chennai citys longest flyover

Posted on : 14/May/2022 9:41:14 AM

Hereafter, it would not be difficult for the public to travel between Medavakkam and Nanmangalam.

A flyover has been constructed at an amount of Rs 95.21 crores to link these 2 above said places in Chennai. The surprising piece of information is that this flyover would be the longest ever in the city of Chennai. Yesterday, the chief minister of TN Mr. Stalin inaugurated this flyover and grabbed many eyeballs. It is believed that this new and lengthy flyover of 2.06km along the Tambaram- Velachery road would reduce traffic congestion in places like Sholinganallur, Mambakkam and Madipakkam etc

Truth is that the motorists would be able to skip the Madipakkam junction. It was mentioned by a regular commuter that many motorists would feel relieved now because it takes more than 20 minutes to cross one km stretch during the peak hours. Every day, atleast 1,25lakhs motorists use this stretch and this was according to an official data. It is known that the arterial stretch also connects ECR with OMR in Chennai. Since the flyover construction work started in 2015, the commuters have been facing traffic congestion.

There were 2 main reasons for the work delay. According to an officer belonging to the Highways department, in December 2018 the original selected bidder was replaced by a new bidder for not completing the work on time. He added that the work was stopped due to land acquisition issues and it was resolved in 2020.

It was brought out by many commuters that maintenance of the flyover would be an issue. In 2021, the first arm of the flyover was inaugurated and since then many trenches have emerged. Since monsoon, requests have been made for the maintenance work. This issue must not occur with the second arm of the flyover also.

The service road near Pallikaranai must be widened and this was as per some residents. The distance between Pallikaranai and Perungudi is just 500m but 4 wheelers have been forced to take a roundabout route of 2km. The residents want the encroachments on the Pallikaranai side to be cleaned. It must be noted that there is just enough space for only 2 wheelers on the service lane that directly stretches from Pallikaranai to Perungudi.

An activist from Vanagaram spoke about how vehicles have been parked everywhere on the sides of the road, between flyover pillars, on the service lane. He threw light on how share autos have been parked in the middle of the road. Fact is that it would take around 60 minutes to 90 minutes to cross the 8km stretch in the peak hours. In addition, a huge textile showroom that has come up near Pallikaranai has also been causing issues with around 50 bikes parked outside the showroom blocking the road.
