The first pair of U girders has been placed on the pillars near Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur now.

It must be noted that the work on the elevated stretch of Poonamallee - Light House corridor between Poonamallee and Power House at Kodambakkam has been going quickly. From Porur Lake to Iyyappanthangal for about 3km, the contractor has built pillars on the central meridian of Mount –Poonamalle Road. This was as per some sources belonging to CMRL.

Box girders made of multiple precast segments were used by CMRL in the 45km phase-1 corridor. Truth is that it took 4to 5 days to assemble between the pillars that were 20 to 25km apart. Assembling the U girder between the 2 pillars could be done faster. It is known that U girders were used by CMRL in the phase-1 extension line.

There are many built-in structural elements present in the girders. This was based on the DPR report for phase-2 girders. Coaches on the bridges would be held in case of derailment by these structural elements. Information is that it has a maintenance and evacuation path on either side of the track with cable support and sound barrier.  By June 2025, the elevated stretch between Kodambakkam Power House to Poonamallee stretch via Vadapalani and Porur would be completed.
