Excess intake of tomatoes could lead to these health issues, be careful!!

Across the world, a red coloured and plump shaped vegetable has been used to make many delicious dishes. We are now talking about tomatoes, an amazing and delicious vegetable.

Tomatoes are also used as a part of beauty treatments plus removing tan in the summers etc.  Various ingredients present in tomatoes are lycopene, beta carotene, naringenin and chlorogenic acid etc. They also have potassium and vitamins like B and E in them.

It is believed that tomatoes have superb antioxidant properties and could provide us with superb protection against the harmful UV radiations etc. Intake of tomatoes could control the growth of cancer cells in us plus they could provide our bones the much needed strength. Other noteworthy benefits of consuming tomatoes are good heart health, controlling blood sugar levels, good for digestive health etc.

Inspite of having so many health benefits, it is advised not to eat tomatoes in excess amounts as it would lead to many health issues in us.

Various health issues of eating too much of tomatoes are

Acid reflux:
We might experience acid reflux or heartburn etc when we consume an excess amount of tomatoes. The acidic nature of tomatoes is responsible for this issue and it would result in excess secretion of gastric juice. Those persons who have issues like GERD or digestive stress etc must never eat tomatoes too much.

Kidney based problems:
Tomatoes must not be consumed in excess by those persons who have chronic kidney disease. Potassium present in tomatoes could create issues for these persons. It is possible to get kidney issues when a person eats high levels of oxalate. The person could get kidney stones in them. The calcium and oxalate present in the body in excess amounts would not get metabolised or removed from the body. 

Irritable bowel syndrome:
It is believed that tomatoes with irritable seeds and skins could lead to irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. Persons with IBS could get bloating issues when they eat excess tomatoes. Not many would be aware of the fact that tomatoes are one of the most common allergy causing foods and could result in intestinal based issues.

Joint pain:
The presence of alkaloid solanine in tomatoes could lead to swelling and joint pain when they are eaten in excess amounts. It must be taken into note that solanine could lead to calcium build up in the tissues and to inflammation later on.

Allergies and infections:
Issues like skin rashes and allergic reactions might occur in a peperson due to compound histamine present in the tomatoes. Persons who have tomato allergy might show swelling of mouth, tongue, face, sneezing etc. Just by touching tomatoes, a person with tomato allergy could get itchy and swollen skin.

Diarrhoea:
Excess consumption of tomatoes could lead to diarrhoea and this could be because of the presence of the bacterium salmonella.

Lycopenodermia:
By excess intake of tomatoes that are rich in lycopene, a person might get skin discolouration. It is true that lycopene would be good for the health when it is consumed less than 75mg per day.
