We all know that a popular spice used in making many dishes is turmeric. Many of us forget the fact that not only in the culinary world turmeric is used but also in treating health issues also. It has got fabulous medicinal properties and has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. The cucurmin present in turmeric has got superb antioxidant and anti- inflammatory properties.

In combination with milk, or application on the wounds or as supplements, turmeric has been sensational. Various ingredients present in turmeric are calcium, sodium, potassium, manganese, protein, dietary fibers and vitamins like B6 and C etc. It is believed that per day we can consume 500 to 200 mg of turmeric in an extract form.  If turmeric is consumed in excess then it would be dangerous to the health of these persons.

Persons with these health problems must never consume turmeric in excess amounts.

Pregnant and breastfeeding woman:

The pregnant women and breastfeeding women can consume turmeric in the food form because the cucurmin level is less in cooked foods. These women must be careful and not consume turmeric as a medicinal form as it might stimulate the menstrual period or stimulate the uterus etc.

Persons with anemia:

Those persons with anemia must not consume turmeric in excess amounts as it might worsen their condition. It is known that deficiency of iron leads to anemia in us. Point is that anemia occurs when the body doesn’t make enough red blood cells or the body loses excessive red blood cells due to bleeding etc. Absorption of iron would be prevented by excess turmeric

Persons with bleeding issues:

It must be taken into note that persons with bleeding disorders must not have turmeric in excess amounts. Persons are those who depend on blood thinning medicines or those who have nose bleeding etc.  Intake of more cucurmin in turmeric might slow down the blood clotting ability. This might lead to more bruising and bleeding etc.

Persons with diabetes:

These persons must be careful regarding what they eat because they must control their blood sugar levels. Intake of excess turmeric with cucurmin could reduce the quantity of sugar in the blood. It can reduce the blood sugar to low levels if enough caution is not taken while consuming turmeric.

Persons with kidney stones:

High in oxalate, intake of excess amounts of turmeric could combine with calcium and it could lead to kidney stones formation. It is known that kidney stones are formed due to deposition of salt.
