The third Coronavirus infection wave has been spreading rapidly now in the state of TN. This has made many to worry now. The government is taking several measures to control the spread of this deadly infection. The vaccination drive for the students of 15 to`18 age groups has just started in Tamil Nadu. Now, with the rise in the number of Coronavirus cases plus Omicron variant cases, parents as well as the academicians are worried about conducting direct physical classes for the students of classes 10 to 12.

The health experts have warned regarding the rapid spread of the Omicron variant type is known. It is now said that the government would soon decide on whether to close down all the schools or not.

The shocking truth is that this Omicron variant is expected to spread even faster than the previous Delta variant. Even in this scenario, the school education department is determined to conduct both revision tests as well as the board examinations for the students.

The direct physical classes are being continued. It is very clear that the decision regarding closure of schools for the students who would be appearing for the board exams would be taken by the chief minister after discussion with the health experts. This was mentioned by the school education minister Mr.  Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

Currently, in all the schools, strict Covid-19 protocols are being maintained and the government would ensure the safety of the students. It was mentioned by a resident belonging to Pammal that she was afraid to send her daughter of class 12 to the school for the physical classes because of the fear of the Omicron variant. It is learnt that parents want the online classes to take over from the physical classes just like it was done in the first and second Coronavirus infection waves.

Dr. N. Ravishankar, state general secretary, TN Government Doctors Association spoke about how not only schools but also the colleges must be closed. He explained that the Omicron variant has been spreading at rapid speeds through aerosol. The doctor’s association has already given representation to close all the educational institutions.

As per Mr. Arumainathan, president of TN Parents Teachers Welfare Association it was clear that the parents have lots of confusion now regarding the board examinations and about sending their kids to the schools. He concluded that after the Pongal festival the government would take steps to close down the rest of the schools too.
